Home My personal genealogy page Services I provide Fees & Rates Artistic Family Trees FAQ's
| Q: | How many hours will it take to research my family? How long will it take? |
| A: | I cannot tell you how many hours will be required to research your family history, nor how quickly. Many things affect how long it will take including, how many generations you want me to go back, are you researching ancestry that includes difficult to find records such as Indian or slave records, and how much information you can provide me when starting your research. I can tell you that each family is unique, and there is unique information for each family, so some families will take longer to research than others. |
| Q: | Can you guarantee to find my ancestor/relative (aunt, uncle, grandparent, great-grandparent, etc.)? |
| A: | It would be unethical for me, or any professional genealogist, to guarantee to find your ancestor, but I can guarantee that I will exhaust all avenues of research to find all the information about your family that is available. |
| Q: | How much will researching my family cost? |
| A: | That depends on how extensive your family is, how far you want me to research, and what services you want me to provide. Researching a simple tree going back only 4 generations is very different thing than researching 15 generations of family history. I also have a range of products and services I can provide from simple printed trees to entire books containing your family's personal histories and photographs. You control the entire process. Please see my Fees and Rates page for details. |
| Q: | How long will it take to finish the project and receive my information? |
| A: | The length of time it will take to finish the project and get the results back to you will depend on the extent of the project. A small project of less than 10 hours in a local repository can take only a few days; but, a large project of 10 hours or more can take up to a few months as it may be necessary for me to travel to larger research facilities. I generally have several clients at any given time, and must schedule my time to accommodate each of them. Getting the results to you after the research is completed will take about a week, or so, to give me time to compile the information into a report for you. |
| Q: | What do I need to get started? |
| A: | To begin a project, I need as much information as you have on the persons to be researched. So that I will not duplicate work already done, please provide me with any copies of reports or summaries of previous research touching on the case, copies of significant records, including census records, and notes on sources or collections already searched. I would also like to see your tree for review before beginning a project. This will help me determine how much time will be needed for research. If you have a tree on Ancestry.com, just the link to the tree (if it is public) will be fine. If it is private, I will need an invitation to view it. If you would like for me to upload and attach documents to your tree, I will need editor status. You may send an invitation to me using my ancestry id (krisaubu) or by my email address (tnvalleygenealogy@charter.net). Either way is fine. If you don't have a tree on Ancestry.com, but have one using Family Tree Maker or any other family tree software, you can simply create a gedcom file and email it to me. I will work on the tree you send, and will return to you the updated tree in gedcom format.
